As part of the new permanent exhibition NY At Its Core I lead the team in the design and production of the interactive experiences in the Future City Lab.

These experiences are centered around 5 challenges facing New York City: Getting Around, Living Together, Living with Nature, Making a Living, and Housing a Growing City.

The Map Table is a curved array of 30 screens that visualizes data related to each of the 5 challenges. For example in "Living Together" you can learn about which neighborhoods are the most diverse and where their inhabitants come from. In "Making a Living" you can learn where in the city the incomes are highest and how the job landscape is changing.

The Activity Tables are a series of interactive games that allow visitors to imagine their version of the future city in the context of real New York neighborhoods and measure their ideas against real-world metrics. In "Housing a Growing City" you can play architect and design a building for living and working. In "Living with Nature" you play landscape architect and design a fiscally and environmentally responsible park with lots of fun activities. In "Getting Around" you play city planner and design a street that is both safe and allows for greater mobility. All of the games are populated by New Yorkers of the future who don't hold back their opinions about your design.

When your creation is complete you can send yourself a copy and publish it to the Streetscape Wall where depth sensing cameras composite you into your vision of the future.
